1914

P.D. begins working in Bombay

At 13 years old, Parmanand (P.D.) Hinduja moves from his native Shikarpur, Sindh to Bombay to set up his own trading business. Soon after, the financial turmoil of the First World War forces him to find new markets for his goods.

Recognizing the potential for trade  between India and Iran, he sets up partnerships that allow him to export and import tea, jute goods, textiles spices and all manner of goods between the two countries.

1935

S.P. joins the family business.

P.D's son, Srichand (S.P.) Hinduja, at age 18, joins his father’s trading business helping to expand operations to plywood manufacturing, textile mills and brick manufacturing for distribution along the Silk Route.

In the next decades, Parmanand and his sons expand to operate textile mills, brick manufacturing, plywood and textile processing and cotton and silk manufacturing.

1951

Hospital for refugees is founded.

Along with other Sindhi philanthropists, Parmanand establishes the Seth Deepchand Gangaram Hinduja Healthcare Centre to care for the needs of refugees after Partition of India and Pakistan. 2 years later the Healthcare Centre becomes a National Hospital equipped with 30 beds, and is managed by the National Health and Education Society.

1957

Bollywood distribution begins.

S.P. and his older brother Girdhar buy international rights to Hindi movies and become the first distributors of Indian film outside India, promoting them around the world.

1978

Amas SA Finance is founded.

S.P. establishes Amas SA Finance in Switzerland.

1984

Hinduja Group buys Gulf Oil

1984 Srichand leads the Hinduja Group purchase of Gulf Oil (outside of U.S., Spain and Portugal).

1986

Hinduja National Hospital founded.

Under Srichand’s vision, a new 350-bed Hinduja National Hospital is commissioned to replace the old hospital, providing a better range of treatments and research facilities developed in collaboration with Massachusetts General
Hospital in Boston.

In 2000, Vinoo Hinduja is named Managing Trustree, taking the hospital to new heights, and over 500 beds, a nursing college and research center.

1987

Hinduja Group buys Ashok Leyland.

In partnership with IVECO, Srichand leads the acquisition of Ashok Leyland, India’s second largest commercial vehicle manufacturer.

1994

Indic Research programs founded.

In memory of his late son, Dharam S Hinduja, Srichand establishes Dharam Hinduja Institutes of Indic
 Research in India, and at Cambridge and Columbia, devoted to finding modern-day applications for the Vedic scriptures and traditions, including Yoga and Ayurveda.

1994

IndusInd Bank founded in India.

S.P. establishes IndusInd Bank in India, in collaboration with other prominent Non Resident Indians.

2006

The Hinduja Foundation is established.

The Hinduja Foundation becomes a Founder Member of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, dedicated to the prevention of the harmful effects of climate change.

2017

Vinoo Hinduja named Chair of Hinduja Swiss Holdings.

2018

Shanu Hinduja named Chair of Hinduja Bank.

2020

Karam Hinduja elected CEO of S.P. Hinduja Banque Privée

S.P. Hinduja is the eldest member and patriarch of the Hinduja Family, and Chairman of Hinduja Group - one of the most successful and diversified family businesses in the modern world. With a heritage rooted in the Indus Valley civilization, S.P. brings the Vedic principles, derived from Nature itself, to both his family and his business life, and together these embody his purpose, his dharma: "work to give".

S.P. joined his father’s trading business at the age of 18 and helped to expand operations along the Silk Road. Throughout his life, S.P. has taken bold entrepreneurial steps to build economically sustainable businesses and develop initiatives for greater multicultural understanding that serves communities globally.

Over the years he has founded global businesses, including two banks, acquired numerous companies and has created a renowned family business architecture. S.P. has broken barriers to bring cultures together in truly unique ways by advising world leaders, bringing Indian culture to the world through cinema and creating unprecedented gateways between the US, UK and India. It is this legacy that is supported by his wife Madhu, and is upheld by his daughters Shanu and Vinoo, and his grandchildren Karam and Lavanya, who work to uphold his principles and extend his purpose to new frontiers. S.P. Hinduja is a family man who works toward greater alignment with the laws of nature that govern our existence, which inform the principles he brings to both his life and his work for the betterment of Humankind.
